What it means

The 4C error code (often interchangeable with the 4E code on older Samsung models) is triggered when the main control board detects that the washer is not filling with water within the programmed time limit. Specifically, the pressure sensor (water level switch) fails to register the expected frequency change—which indicates rising water levels in the tub—within 4 to 6 minutes of the water inlet valve being energized. This timeout protocol is a critical safety feature; it protects the inlet valve solenoids from overheating and prevents the wash cycle from running dry, which could damage internal components. The fault originates from one of several areas: a physical restriction in the household water supply, an electrical failure at the inlet valve solenoids (such as an open coil), a clogged or leaking pressure switch hose, or a failure in the main PCB's triac that is responsible for sending 120VAC to the valve. Proper diagnosis requires isolating the mechanical water flow from the electrical actuation.

   Sediment and hard water scale can block the small mesh filters located inside the water inlet valve where the hoses connect, severely restricting water flow.

   The household water supply valves may be shut off, or the inlet hoses behind the washer may be kinked or crushed, preventing water from reaching the machine.

How to clear / reset

To temporarily clear the 4C error code, power down the washer and unplug it from the wall for 3 to 5 minutes to reset the main control board. Reconnect power and restart the cycle. However, the 4C code is an active diagnostic fault; if the root cause (like a closed water valve or dead inlet solenoid) is not resolved, the code will immediately return as soon as the washer attempts to fill again. Always verify your hot and cold water supply lines are fully open before attempting a reset.
